From the dripping tap to the newly fitted basin
The tap is the most used piece of plumbing in a home and the first to suffer from the hard water of the Plana Baixa: the cartridge stiffens, the aerator clogs and the handle starts to drip. In many cases it is enough to replace the cartridge or aerator and remove the scale; when the body of the tap is pitted or spares no longer exist, I propose a replacement.
I fit kitchen and bathroom taps of every type — single-lever, twin-handle, pull-out, thermostatic shower — connecting them with new flexible hoses and isolation valves if the old ones no longer close properly. If you have bought the tap yourself, I fit it without any problem; if you prefer me to supply it, I suggest models that cope well with limescale.
I also fit basins, countertop basins and kitchen sinks: fixing to the unit or the wall, trap, clicker or plug waste and connection to the hoses. Before calling the job done, I check the flow, adjust the pressure if it is excessive and make sure there is not a single drop under the unit.

A tap replacement, step by step
A short job, but done in an order that prevents leaks later.

I close the isolation valves
And if they do not close properly, I replace them: the most common cause of future leaks.

I remove and clean
I take out the old tap, clean the base and check the condition of the countertop or basin.

I fit with new hoses
I never reuse old flexible hoses: they are the ones that crack and cause silent leaks.

I test flow and pressure
I turn the water on, bleed the air, check the trap and dry the area.
Questions about taps and basins
Can I buy the tap or basin myself and have you just fit it?
Yes, no problem at all. I only ask you to send me a photo or the model before the visit, to check that the sizes and connections match your installation and to bring the right hoses or adapters.
My mixer tap is very stiff and drips, does the whole thing need replacing?
Usually not. It is the ceramic cartridge, which wears and fills with limescale. If the manufacturer has a spare, I replace it and the tap moves smoothly again. If the tap is a brand without spares, I will tell you so you can decide whether it is worth replacing.
Do you fit thermostatic shower mixers?
Yes. I first check that the hot and cold supplies are at the standard spacing and on the correct side; if not, I fit offset connectors or adapt the outlet. It is a change that greatly improves comfort and prevents scalding.
