Electrical fault repair in Onda

Half the house without power, the RCD tripping when you plug in the washing machine, a socket that smells of burning: I find the cause and repair it with the installation made safe.

Circuit breakers and RCD in a consumer unit
What it includes

I check the installation and trace the source of the fault

An electrical fault is rarely where it shows. The RCD trips at the consumer unit, but the leakage is in the outdoor socket soaked by rain; the hallway light does not work, but the fault is a loose connection in the junction box in the living room. That is why I work methodically: I separate circuits, measure with the tester and narrow it down to the exact point.

I repair dead circuits, RCDs and breakers that trip, sockets and switches that spark or heat up, short circuits, junction boxes with deteriorated connections, cables damaged by rodents or damp, and faults after a storm. I replace the failing part or section and leave a proper connection, not a botch.

While I get there

What to do if the RCD trips

If the RCD trips, leave all the breakers down, reset the RCD and switch the breakers back on one at a time: the one that trips it again is the circuit with the problem. Unplug the appliances on that circuit and try again. With that information, when you message me on WhatsApp I will already know where to start and how long the repair might take.

If you notice a burning smell, see smoke or a blackened fitting, switch off the main switch and do not switch it back on until I have checked it: it is the only situation where it is better to wait without power.

FAQ

Questions about electrical faults

The power has gone only in the kitchen, what could it be?

Most often a tripped breaker, a loose connection in a junction box or a burnt-out fitting on that circuit. I check the consumer unit, then the boxes and points on the circuit until I find the break.

Does replacing the RCD stop it tripping?

Almost never. The RCD trips because it detects a current leakage somewhere, and that is its job. Replacing it without finding the leakage leaves the problem untouched. What I do is locate the circuit and the appliance or connection causing it.

Do you attend electrical faults outside your hours?

My working hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Outside them you can message me on WhatsApp: I read it as soon as I can, tell you what to do to stay safe and we arrange the visit first thing on the next working day.
